Reverence to cow is an article of faith in Hindu religion For Hindus killing of a cow is a serious crime. The ARTHASHASHTA prescribes death sentence for killing cow. And no wonder that during World War 2 American service men stationed in Calcutta -the then capital of India - were instructed that if a traffic situation arose in which a driver had a choice of striking a cow or a human he should hit the man and not the cow and proceed- without having to stop at a police station. Mr M.K Gandhi the Father of Nation in his book "Hindu Dharma" writes that cow not only has a religous sanctity in hindu religon but is an enobbling creed.Hindu regard cow's urine and dung as purifier and for that matter the devout Hindus would never have a meal without sprinkling cow urine on it.In metroplitan cities, even in educated homes, on religious festivals ,a section of the main entrance is plastered with cow dung and sprinkled with cow urine as an act of virtue and purifcation. In India .My devout hindu friends would carry water with them in bottles purifed with cow urine, other hindu friends and colleagues would mention this to others with a mark of respect and appreciation .

There are things about all religions that are difficult to understand, or even distasteful to some. I would say that we all live in glass houses.

I was unaware of the ceremonial dung and urine purification. Very interesting. Thanks for sharing.
